Filmmaker Karan Johar has announced a break from social media. On Monday evening, KJo took to the stories section of his Instagram handle and revealed that he will be away from the platform for around
a week. Karan wrote that during this time, he won’t scroll his Instagram timeline and won’t be available for messages too.
“Digital Detox for a week ! No doom scrolling! No DMs! No posts! May the universe give me the strength to stay away!!!!” he wrote.
Karan Johar’s Last Post Before ‘Digital Detox’
Before going on a digital detox, Karan dropped a post featuring actress Alia Bhatt in a video still wishing everybody a Happy Republic Day.
Besides this, the filmmaker had also praised the success of the two recent Bollywood releases – Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar and Sunny Deol’s Border 2. “The mega success of the two recent back-to-back mega Hindi film successes proves one thing…Bollywood (yes, incorrect terminology, but here to stay) is back. Naysayers can fly a kite. All Dhurandhars will cross borders of excellence when the films strike emotional chords with a paying audience (sic),” he wrote.
Prior to this, Karan Johar also came out strongly in support of Varun Dhawan after the actor faced intense online trolling over his expressions in Border 2. Varun was particularly targeted for his smile in the film’s trailer and songs, with several social media users questioning whether he was suited for a war drama of this scale.
Taking to his Instagram Stories, Karan criticised what he described as the hollow noise of social media outrage and click-driven commentary. Without naming anyone directly, his post was widely interpreted as a clear defence of Varun Dhawan. “Has to be said… the reason why it’s called a virtual world! Real will always score and prove the noise on social media as defunct,” Karan wrote.
