The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB) was scheduled to announce the results of the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2025 today, August 7. However, the release has been
postponed.
This delay is due to contempt proceedings initiated in the Calcutta High Court against the West Bengal government and other parties, including WBJEEB. A hearing is set for today, August 7, where the Principal Secretary of Higher Education has been summoned to clarify the state’s position.
As per media reports, the Calcutta High Court has suo motu taken up a case, alleging that the board did not adhere to the judicial order of May 21. Consequently, the results cannot be declared, and the counselling process cannot commence until the division bench reaches a decision.
Previously, WBJEEB Chairperson Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee had indicated that the results would be released on August 7. She mentioned that candidates needed to upload their caste certificate information on the portal between July 31 and August 2 for the final results to be prepared.
Initially slated for release on June 5, the results have been withheld due to ongoing legal disputes regarding the revised OBC reservation list. An interim order from the Calcutta High Court invalidated the inclusion of 77 communities in the updated OBC list, citing insufficient justification. The court directed WBJEEB to withhold the results until the issue is resolved.
Once released, students can check their results on the official website at wbjeeb.nic.in. The board will also announce the cut-off list shortly after the WBJEE 2025 results are declared. The cut-off list will consider factors such as the number of applicants, seat availability, exam difficulty, past cut-off trends, and test takers.
This year, the WBJEE exam was conducted on April 27 across various centres in West Bengal.
Around 34,000 engineering seats are available across colleges in the state
Last year, the results were announced on June 6. A total of 99.53 per cent of the students who took the WBJEE 2024 passed.
