Salman Khan is back to host Bigg Boss 19, but this time the superstar won’t be fronting the show for its entire run. The reality series, which premiered on JioCinema on August 24 before airing on Colors,
has taken a new OTT-first route. And with that shift comes a big change in Salman’s paycheck.
Salman’s New Deal
According to a report in Hindustan Times, Salman Khan has agreed to a shorter hosting stint of 15 weeks this season. The actor is charging around Rs 10 crore per weekend, bringing his total earnings to Rs 150 crore. While this is still a staggering amount, it is less than the Rs 250 crore he pocketed for Bigg Boss 18 and even lower than the Rs 200 crore he made in Season 17.
Why the Pay Cut?
The reduced fee is linked to his limited hosting duties. Salman is expected to step aside after 15 weeks, with guest hosts like Farah Khan and Karan Johar likely stepping in to carry the show forward. Both filmmakers have filled in for Salman in earlier seasons, making them familiar faces for Bigg Boss fans.
A Politics Twist in Season 19
The new season comes with a politics-driven theme, with promos hinting that public opinion will influence how the game unfolds. Salman shot the launch promos on Friday, revealing the redesigned Bigg Boss house. The season features 18 contestants, whose names are still under wraps.
Despite the reduced fee, Salman remains the highest-paid star on Indian television, proving that Bigg Boss continues to be one of the most lucrative shows for both the network and its host.
Bigg Boss 19 will premiere on JioHotstar and Colors TV tonight, August 24. The digital-first season will be hosted by Salman Khan for the first three months. Afterwards, guest hosts like Farah Khan, Karan Johar, and Anil Kapoor may take over for the remaining period. This year, the show will release fresh episodes first on Jio Hotstar, followed by Colors TV telecast after approximately one and a half hours.
Who Are The Contestants In Bigg Boss 19?
While the official participant list remains under wraps, probable contestants joining Bigg Boss season 19 include Ashnoor Kaur, Abhishek Bajaj, Awez Darbar, Nagma Mirajkar, Shehbaz Badesha, Mridul Tiwari, Siwet Tomar, Baseer Ali and Hunar Hale.
