Indian Railways News: Rail connectivity across Gujarat is set for a major boost, with Indian Railways planning to add two more railway lines across around 259 km between Vadodara and Ratlam.
The Western
Railway (WR) project will involve the construction of third and fourth lines on the busy route connecting Gujarat with Madhya Pradesh and further north, as reported by The Indian Express. The additional tracks are expected to ease pressure on one of the region’s important railway corridors, which carries a large number of both passenger and freight trains.
More Trains On Busy Delhi-Mumbai Rail Route
The Vadodara-Ratlam section forms part of the Golden Quadrilateral rail network and is an important link for trains travelling between the Delhi and Mumbai regions. With two additional lines being built, Indian Railways will have more capacity to operate trains on the corridor. This is expected to reduce congestion and give railway authorities greater flexibility when scheduling passenger and freight services.
For passengers, the additional capacity could mean smoother, more reliable train operations, particularly on a route where passenger and freight trains currently share limited railway infrastructure.
Western Railway said the additional infrastructure is expected to make train operations faster, smoother, safer and more punctual.

Vishwamitri-Dabhoi Railway Line To Get Second Track
The Vadodara region is also set for another major railway upgrade. The 33-km Vishwamitri-Dabhoi railway line will be doubled at an estimated cost of Rs 394 crore.
The route currently has a single railway line, which limits the number of trains that can operate on the section. Doubling the track will create additional capacity and allow trains to move more smoothly.
The upgrade is expected to improve the punctuality and efficiency of rail services in the region by allowing trains to operate with greater flexibility.
Better Rail Connectivity To Statue Of Unity
The Vishwamitri-Dabhoi route is particularly important because it provides connectivity towards the Statue of Unity, one of Gujarat’s major tourist destinations. The doubling project is therefore expected to benefit not only regular rail passengers but also tourists travelling towards the Statue of Unity.
With an additional track, trains will have greater operational flexibility, which could make journeys on the route more convenient and improve the overall rail connection to the popular destination.
