Salman Khan is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in the country. However, filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar believes that due to his large persona, he remains underutilised as an actor. Ali and Salman have
worked together on films like Sultan, Tiger Zinda Hai and Bharat. The filmmaker said that while many other directors make action films with Salman, they don’t tap into his emotional side.
Ali Abbas Zafar said, as quoted by Hindustan Times, “Salman sir, or bhai as I call him, is a gifted actor and, as I always say, very underutilised. He has such a large persona because of which filmmakers don’t tap into his emotional side, which is his core as a human being. I’ve done three films with him that have explored emotions- Sultan, where he’s macho but also vulnerable and down and out in life.”
He added, “The kind of emotional depth he showed in that film was phenomenal. Tiger Zinda Hai was a hostage drama that explored the charisma which his character, Tiger, holds, but also shows the character in a humane way. Then there’s the range that he showed in Bharat was from age 21 to 65.”
“I’d like to mention the scene where he finds out Tabu is his sister; that was something else. My favourite part of him pulling off every character is the kind of effort he puts in without letting you realise he is preparing. Offscreen, he taught me not to take life or myself too seriously,” the director said.
Meanwhile, Salman Khan turned 60 on December 27 and celebrated with a grand, private bash at his Panvel farmhouse. Several prominent Bollywood celebrities attended the birthday bash, making it one of the most talked-about events of the week. Salman’s birthday festivities saw the presence of several A-list celebrities, including Aditya Roy Kapur, Rakul Preet Singh, Huma Qureshi and others.
Adding to the star power, Tabu arrived at the bash, along with former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni, who was accompanied by his wife Sakshi and daughter Ziva. His family members also arrived in full strength. Salman’s parents, Salim Khan and Salma Khan, were also present, making the celebration a deeply personal family affair. Brother Arbaaz Khan was spotted with wife Sshura Khan, while nephews Arhaan Khan and Nirvaan Khan were also seen outside the farmhouse. Sister Arpita Khan attended the celebration with husband Aayush Sharma.
