Mirzapur has firmly established itself as one of the most iconic and cult franchises in Indian entertainment, known for its intense storytelling, crime-laced narrative, and raw, rooted world. Now, the universe
is expanding onto the big screen with Mirzapur: The Movie, slated for a theatrical release on September 4, 2026. The announcement alone has sparked massive excitement, making it one of the most anticipated films on the horizon.
With the film, audiences can expect fresh characters, new conflicts, and a scale that promises to be bigger and more gripping than ever. While the series has already delivered unforgettable female powerhouses like Beena Tripathi and Golu, an independent source reveals that the film aims to introduce even more strong, impactful women, further elevating the narrative’s intensity and depth.
According to an independent industry source, “The Mirzapur series has given us many powerful female characters like Beena Tripathi, Golu, and Sweety, who have stood out distinctly despite the male-dominated narrative. Now, with Mirzapur: The Movie, will we get to see more such female characters added to the filmmakers are in talks”.
Not long back, actor Shweta Tripathi recently spoke about her long association with Golu Gupta from Mirzapur, sharing how the character has remained a constant in her life over the years. Having played the role for nearly eight years, she described it as a journey that has stayed with her both personally and professionally. She said, “It’s difficult to explain what Golu means to me because she has been a part of my life for almost eight years. When I first started playing her, she was this reserved, intelligent girl who believed deeply in books and knowledge. Over time we saw her grow, change and become stronger because of everything life threw at her. As an actor, getting the chance to live with a character for so many years is very rare, and I feel extremely grateful for it.”
The film brings back iconic characters of Mirzapur — Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi), Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal), and marks the much-anticipated comeback of Munna Bhaiya (Divyenndu), one of the franchise’s most loved characters.
The ensemble cast also Jitendra Kumar, Ravi Kishan, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Duggal, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Gaur, Sushant Singh, Mohit Malik, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Sonal Chauhan, Pramod Pathak and Anangsha Biswas.
