As India tightened their grip on New Zealand in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday, captain Suryakumar Yadav and his players could finally begin to relax.
With victory all but secured
and only a few overs remaining, the defending champions took a moment to soak in the atmosphere and enjoy the occasion.
It was during these closing moments that the Narendra Modi Stadium erupted in one of the most entertaining scenes of the night. Young wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, stationed near the boundary line, became the centre of attention as fans in the adjacent stands began chanting in unison.
“Ishan ko bowling do!”
Indian fans, who had already enjoyed Kishan’s explosive knock of 54 during India’s innings, humorously demanded that the star be handed the ball as well. Loud chants of “Ishan ko bowling do! Ishan ko bowling do!” echoed around the stadium before Kishan noticed the crowd’s demand and playfully relayed it to his captain.
In a video that went viral online, Kishan can be seen catching Suryakumar’s attention from across the field and pointing towards the stands to indicate what the fans were asking for. He urged his skipper to give him the ball, despite rarely bowling in professional cricket for India, Jharkhand, or his IPL franchises Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The moment became even funnier when Kishan pressed his case by mimicking his bowling action, drawing laughter from the fans.
Ishan Shines On Comeback
Kishan marked his successful return to the Indian team with a standout performance in the final. After making useful contributions earlier in the tournament, he continued his rich vein of form with a blistering 54 off just 25 balls. His innings included four fours and four sixes and helped propel India to a massive total of 255/5 after batting first.
New Zealand were later bowled out for 159 in reply.
Kishan had also delivered in the high-pressure clash against Pakistan earlier in the tournament, smashing a match-winning 77 off 40 deliveries on a challenging surface in Colombo. He finished the tournament as the fourth-highest run-scorer, amassing 317 runs at an impressive strike rate of 193.29.
