Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which is set to form the government soon, has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the oath-taking ceremony.
The invitation is viewed as BNP chairman Tarique
Rahman’s bid to engage constructively with India to strengthen the ties between the two nations.
The newly elected MPs will take the oath on February 17, cabinet secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid stated.

To attend the oath ceremony of the new cabinet, the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has invited the heads of government from 13 countries.
So far, the list of invited countries includes China, Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the Maldives, and Bhutan, according to sources.
‘Look Forward To Engaging Constructively’
Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s congratulatory message on ‘X’, BNP said, “Thank you very much. We greatly appreciate your kind acknowledgement of Tarique Rahman’s leadership in securing the BNP’s decisive win in the national elections”.
“We look forward to engaging constructively with India to advance our multifaceted relationship, guided by mutual respect, sensitivity to each other’s concerns, and a shared commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity in our region”.
Notably, in his first phone call with Rahman on Friday post BNP’s win, PM Modi stated he looked forward to working with the BNP leader to strengthen ties between the two nations.
India’s participation with Bangladesh at any level will be closely watched as it will define and shape the future trajectory of the new government led by Tarique Rahman.
Rahman, 60, is set to become the country’s first male head in 35 years after the BNP’s decisive triumph in the polls.
