of Airavata, the celestial white elephant associated with Lord Indra. In the trailer, this white elephand can be seen in a striking sequence with Yash’s Ravana. Let’s find out more about this creature.
Who Is Airavata?
As per the Hindu mythology, Airavata is the divine elephant who serves as the mount or vahana of Lord Indra, the king of the devas. He is traditionally described as a magnificent white elephant and is closely associated with clouds, rain and Indra’s celestial realm.
Airavata is also known by names including Abhramatanga and Nagayanti in various traditions. His association with rain and the skies reflects his connection to Indra, who is regarded in Vedic tradition as a deity of storms and rainfall.
How Is Airavata Connected To Ramayana?
Airavata belongs to the larger celestial world of Hindu mythology and is associated primarily with Indra rather than being a central character in Ramayana. However, its appearance in Ramayana: Part 1 trailer has been done to expand the cinematic universe beyond the immediate story of Ram, Sita and Ravana. The trailer shows Ravana battling Airavata, presenting the Lankesh as a force capable of challenging even the celestial realm.
It can also be argued that in the trailer, Ravana is introduced as a ruler seeking dominion over the three worlds, making his confrontation with a celestial figure a visual representation of his challenge to the devas.
What Else Does Ramayana Trailer Show?
The trailer opens with Yash’s Ravana proclaiming himself the ruler of all three worlds. As he unleashes chaos and destruction, Lord Vishnu takes the avatar of Ram to restore balance and protect the earth. The trailer then introduces Ranbir Kapoor’s Ram, who battles demons and safeguards his people before growing up and marrying Sita.
However, Ram and Sita’s life takes a dramatic turn when he is sentenced to 14 years of vanvaas. Sita, played by Sai Pallavi, and Lakshman, portrayed by Ravie Dubey, choose to accompany him into exile. What follows is the abduction of Sita by Ravana and the epic battle that ensues, setting the stage for one of the greatest confrontations between good and evil.
