Actor Saif Ali Khan’s crime thriller Kartavya is all set to stream on Netflix soon. In the film, Saif plays a police officer faces a moral dilemma when threats endanger his family, forcing him to choose
between protecting his loved ones and honouring his oath to serve justice. The actor opened up on working Shah Rukh Khan’s production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, revealing that the superstar prefers giving the director complete creative freedom during the film.
Speaking about his interaction with Shah Rukh Khan, Saif, in an exclusive chat with News18, shared that the actor-producer approached him personally with the project and encouraged him to hear the script of Kartavya.
“I’ve had a lovely and long association with Shah Rukh. He’s someone I look up to in many, many ways. I had a short meeting with him. He said that there’s a lovely script and he would like me to hear it and do the film. I went through the process of listening to it and meeting the director (Pulkit). Once we finished the shoot and Shah Rukh watched it, he said it’s a lovely film. He’s very happy with it. That was pretty much the limit of my interaction with him. I didn’t meet him on set because he’s one of the producers who believe that a director is free to operate and make the film that he wants to make. Sometimes, some kinds of presence can be overwhelming on sets and he understands that. He gave us a lot of room to make the film that we wanted to make. So, that was his involvement. I felt like I was working for his production with his sensibilities. But for that, an everyday involvement wasn’t required.”
Producer Ashish Singh also spoke about the involvement of Gauri Khan and Shah Rukh Khan in the production process, saying both remain actively engaged while still allowing filmmakers creative space. “Gauri has been completely involved right from the day the script was locked. We’ve a system in place wherein both Shah Rukh sir and Gauri ma’am give inputs that are incorporated in the film and through the process, they’re very much involved to know what’s happening, where we’re in terms of the shooting, the budget etc. They’ve a final say on the final product but they give a lot of flexibility to the director and it’s up to the director to take it or not take it. Of course, the marketing mind of Shah Rukh sir comes in once the film is ready. So, yes, they both are involved but they never become a hindrance to a project.”
Directed and written by Pulkit, best known for Bhakshak, Kartavya also stars Rasika Dugal, Sanjay Mishra, Zakir Hussain, Manish Chaudhari and Saurabh Dwivedi.
