Mysuru’s Dasara celebrations reached a new milestone when 3,473 drones lit up the night sky to create a giant dancing peacock. The display took place on October 18 at the Torchlight Parade Ground in Bannimantap,
Mysuru, and earned a Guinness World Records title.
The show brought together modern technology and Karnataka’s rich culture, with the peacock, India’s national bird, taking centre stage. The colourful display was organised as part of the annual festival and added a new highlight to the city’s celebrations.
Thousands Of Drones Create A Record-Breaking Peacock
The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) organised the show, while Delhi-based BotLab Dynamics handled the drone display.
According to reports, the team created the largest aerial display of a bird using multirotor drones. BotLab Dynamics, a company incubated at IIT Delhi, shared a video of the display on Instagram. The footage showed the peacock taking shape in the sky, with its colourful feathers appearing to move as the drones changed positions in sync.
The achievement added another Guinness World Records title to the team’s name. In 2025, the same team had set a record by creating a jumping tiger using 2,983 drones.
Drone Show Features More Cultural Symbols
The 2026 Mysuru Dasara drone show featured several other images alongside the peacock. These included a lion, a butterfly, a soldier holding the Tricolour and Goddess Chamundeshwari.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar also shared a video of the event on X. His post featured several aerial formations, including a peacock, a butterfly, a lion, the Chakra and Lord Krishna.
In his post, Shivakumar said Mysuru Dasara continued to show the world how beautifully tradition could embrace innovation. He praised the peacock formation and the Guinness World Record achieved by CESC, describing the display as a celebration of Karnataka’s creativity, culture and spirit of progress.
He also called the achievement a proud moment for the state and a spectacular memory of Dasara.

How Do Drones Create Shapes In The Sky?
Drone light shows use special software to plan each drone’s position and flight path. According to Skybrush’s technical guide, the software helps coordinate their movements so they can form shapes, patterns and images.
Each drone carries lights that can change colour, allowing thousands of drones to create detailed pictures in the sky. Careful planning and synchronised movement help ensure that the drones stay in formation and produce the intended display.
