Emraan Hashmi has made a noteworthy comeback in the entertainment industry with back-to-back successful performances. Following the viral popularity of his cameo role in Aryan Khan’s The Ba***ds of Bollywood
and his critically acclaimed role in Haq, Emraan was recently seen as a customs officer in Neeraj Pandey’s international smuggling thriller Taskaree. In his latest, Emraan Hashmi comments on his tremendous career comeback.
Speaking to Etimes, Emraan Hashmi said that he joined Neeraj Pandey’s Taskaree to delve into the fascinating, high-stakes world of airport customs officers and worldwide smuggling syndicates. He noted, “What brought me to this was Neeraj Pandey, his vision of playing out a world of smuggling in international flights at our airports. The role of a customs officer is something I was always intrigued by; it’s something I wanted to explore. Finally, when Neeraj Pandey said that this is the character, I grabbed it with both hands because it would be a fool as an actor to let that go.”
Emraan Hashmi on His Cameo Role
Last year, his cameo in The Ba***ds of Bollywood went viral, putting Emraan in the spotlight. When asked how this moment benefited his career, He said, “I myself don’t know how it happened. It’s just something that the fans can answer. It is their tribute to whatever happened and their acknowledgement and their love. I just played out a cameo, a two-day role. But it’s again, apart from the fans, it’s a big thank you to Aryan Khan, (writers) Bilal Siddiqui, Manav Chauhan, the entire team at Red Chillies, Netflix.”
Taskaree- Plot and Cast
Taskaree reveals the intricate machinery of international smuggling—a web based on coded routes, phoney manifests, and planned diversions. At its heart is a specialised customs task force at Mumbai International Airport, led by an unwaveringly honest team of officers: Arjun Meena (Emraan Hashmi), Mitali Kamath (Amruta Khanvilkar), Ravinder Gujjar (Nandish Singh Sandhu), and Prakash Kumar (Anurag Sinha). These officers rely on gut as much as intelligence, knowing that a single overlooked detail might ruin weeks of observation. The notorious kingpin Bada Chaudhary (Sharad Kelkar) and his formidable syndicate stand in their way, operating through layers of deception and global routes meant to avoid detection.
