Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar has found a second wind after landing on Netflix, and with it, a fresh wave of fan theories that refuse to die down. Despite its hefty runtime of over three hours, the Ranveer
Singh-led spy thriller continues to invite close scrutiny, with viewers now re-examining one particular sequence that has split the internet right down the middle. At the heart of the debate is a provocative claim: did Ranveer Singh’s Hamza Ali Mazari actually kill Rehman Dakait’s son in a pivotal scene?
The Dhurandhar scene fuelling fresh speculation
The moment in question unfolds during a high-tension wedding shootout in Lyari, Pakistan. It marks Hamza’s first major action sequence after spending over a year embedded in hostile territory. As Usha Uthup’s infectious Rambha Ho blares in ironic contrast, the celebration descends into carnage. Hamza is tasked with protecting Rehman Dakait’s elder son from an assassination attempt, but the sequence ends ambiguously, with bloodshed all around and Hamza realising that the mission has gone disastrously off track.
The film never explicitly reveals who fires the fatal shot, leaving viewers to assume that Hamza failed to save the target. But that assumption is now being challenged.
The theory that has fans divided
An X (formerly Twitter) user recently reignited the conversation by suggesting that Hamza himself pulled the trigger. “Crazy how people are now realising that Hamza killed Rehman Dakait’s elder son after rewatching Dhurandhar. I caught it the very first time in theatres,” the user claimed, setting off a flurry of reactions across platforms.

Some viewers have embraced the theory, arguing that Hamza’s behaviour immediately after the shooting, and later after Rehman’s death, hints at a far more calculated and morally murky arc for the character. Others, however, remain unconvinced.
Internet reactions range from scepticism to belief
The counterarguments came thick and fast. One Reddit user joked, “Not even Aditya Dhar knew it,” while another pointed out the basic flaw in the theory: Hamza’s mission was to save Rehman’s son, not eliminate him. “In no way was it even slightly indicated that Hamza was plotting to get Rehman’s son killed at all,” a fan wrote.
Others took a more pragmatic view, noting the ideological boundaries of mainstream spy cinema. “No matter what, they’d never show an Indian agent killing a child or teen who isn’t directly engaged in conflict,” one comment reasoned.
Still, not everyone dismissed the idea outright. Some viewers admitted that the same thought crossed their minds while watching the scene unfold on OTT, with one Instagram user writing that they felt Hamza was responsible, even if the film stops short of confirming it.
A film that thrives on ambiguity
That Dhurandhar continues to spark such debates months after its theatrical release speaks to its layered storytelling and willingness to leave certain moral questions unresolved. Directed by Aditya Dhar and headlined by Ranveer Singh, the film also stars Akshaye Khanna, Sara Arjun, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal. Released in cinemas on December 5, the film went on to gross over ₹1328 crore worldwide before its OTT debut.
With Dhurandhar 2 already slated for a March 19 release, it’s likely that such theories will only intensify, as fans continue to dissect every frame in search of hidden intentions and unspoken truths.
