Los Angeles, Jul 20 (PTI) Hollywood actor Anne Hathaway said the makers of Disney’s “The Princess Diaries 3” had a story breakthrough and are “moving in the right direction”.
Hathaway said the script was
scrapped, but now the makers are on the right track.
“I can say I think we had a story breakthrough. I think we are moving in the right direction. The script that we were working on, we kind of had to start over with this new direction, which is not the update I think anybody wants, but we all feel really good that this is gonna be the one,” the actor, who is currently promoting her latest film “The Odyssey”, said on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy.
The actor, who is expecting her third child, said she is unsure when she will start working on “The Princess Diaries 3”. “I’m busy making baby number three, and that has sort of taken the place of knowing when exactly I can make ‘Princess Diaries 3’,” she said.
The first film of “The Princess Diaries” (2001) franchise was directed by Garry Marshall and featured the actor in the role of Mia Thermopolis, whose life turns upside down after she discovers she is the sole heir to the throne of Genovia.
It also starred Julie Andrews, Hector Elizondo alongside Hathaway.
Another installment released in 2004 and followed a 21-year-old Princeton graduate Princess Thermopolis returning to the kingdom of Genovia to be crowned, only to discover a strict legal loophole: an unmarried woman cannot be crowned Queen. It was also directed by Marshall and featured Andrews, and Chris Pine in pivotal roles.
“The Princess Diaries 3” is directed by Adele Lim and will revolve around Hathaway’s character, Thermopolis, as a fully grown queen navigating her leadership in Genovia.
Hathaway’s “The Odyssey” released on Friday and has earned over USD 200 million at the global box office. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan and features the actor in the role of Penelope. Other actors in the film are Tom Holland, Zendaya, Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron.
