Weight loss is about strategy. Besides working out, you need a good diet to achieve your desired fitness goals. Dr Rohan Badave, Consultant – Medical Gastroenterology, Manipal Hospital, told the Hindustan
Times that you can maintain calorie intake through a balanced meal. Dr Rohan highlighted that a person can gain control over their body weight through effective management of their lifestyle.
Balance your meals
Dr Rohan said you should plan and create a healthy eating pattern. This will provide adequate nutrition to the body. “It is helpful to limit eating high-calorie foods that contain little to no nutritional value, including desserts, fried food, cheese, and butter,” he says. According to him, these items “should be consumed only on special occasions”.
Dr Rohan added that one must balance the meals. As per his expertise, an ideal meal should consist of one roti or a small serving of rice, two to three bowls of vegetables or dals.
“A lot of people are doing just the opposite by filling their plate mostly with rice/roti and having little or no vegetables on the plate,” Dr Rohan complained.
He said you can “increase your fibre intake” if you balance your meals. Fibre improves digestion and allows you to “control the overall number of calories you consume”.
The importance of a salad
Additionally, the gastroenterologist advises including a simple pre-meal salad on your plate. He claims that it is an easy method of controlling portions.
According to Dr Rohan, an ideal pre-meal salad would be a plate of low-calorie vegetables, like cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, and radishes.
Hydration is critical
Dr Rohan suggests eating low-fat yoghurt every day since it promotes good gut flora that aids in food digestion. In his words, staying hydrated is “critical”.
“Drinking 2.5 to 3 litres of water each day helps your body’s metabolism and prevents you from snacking or overeating,” he explains. According to Dr Rohan, hydration allows you to “control your weight over time”.
