In a major accident on the old Ahmedabad highway in Udaipur on Saturday, four friends were killed and six others injured after two cars collided. As per the police, the accident occurred near Nela Talab
in the Savina area. All four deceased were residents of Udaipur and were going for tea to celebrate a friend’s birthday.
The deceased teenagers were identified as Mohammad Ayan (17), Adil Qureshi (14), Sher Mohammad (19) and Ghulam Khwaja (17). Two others travelling in the same car — Wasim (20) and Mohammed Kaif (19) — sustained serious injuries and were admitted to MB Hospital.
A video was recorded moments before the deadly crash. The video shows Sher Mohammad at the wheel, driving at a speed of 100–120 kmph, which later escalates to around 140 kmph. Just 1 minute and 10 seconds after the recording begins, the car crashes. In the video, one of the friends can also be heard saying to slow down but his pleas were ignored and a joyous ride turned fatal.
After the crash, for at least 10 minutes, the youths cried for help and by the time locals reached the spot, 4 were dead and 2 were gravely injured.
As per the police, six friends were travelling in one car after attending a ‘Mehfil-e-Milad’ programme and were heading towards the highway for tea when their vehicle was hit by another car.
The second car, bearing a Gujarat registration number, was travelling from Rajgarh in Churu district towards Vapi in Gujarat. Four occupants of the Gujarat-registered car sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment.
The bodies have been kept at the mortuary of MB Hospital for post-mortem, and both vehicles have been seized, he added.
