Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday sharpened his attack on the Centre over allegations of irregularities in the electoral process, stating that votes
were being stolen “right from the top level”.
Gandhi was addressing a ‘Vote Adhikar Jeene Ka Adhikar’ Jan Sunwai at Trilokpuri Block 20 in New Delhi.
He asserted that the opposition INDIA bloc was united on the issue, adding it would continue its agitation until Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar resigned or Prime Minister Narendra Modi removed him from the post, reported ANI.
“The entire Opposition stands united on this issue. The vote is the fundamental right of every Indian citizen. Yet, across India, this right –– their vote –– is being systematically snatched away from crores of people,” he said.

“We have been raising this issue for a long time, but now the entire country is beginning to understand that top level se vote chori ho rahi hai (vote theft is being orchestrated right from the top level),” he said.
The opposition INDIA bloc and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) have been demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and the rollback of the controversial Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
‘Poor People Deliberately Struck Off Voter Lists’
Rahul Gandhi alleged that poor people were deliberately being struck off electoral rolls to serve what he described as ‘naya Hindustan’.
“Poor people are being deliberately struck off the voter lists, and their rights and entitlements are being stripped away. Why? To create ‘Naya Hindustan’ (New India) –– India belonging to a handful of chosen billionaires, where ordinary citizens have no rights, where the poor have no rights, and where the country is run solely for billionaires,” he said, according to ANI.
Impeachment-Style Proceeding Against CEC
Amid the controversy, the Congress has planned a public impeachment-style proceeding against CEC Gyanesh Kumar on October 30, followed by a ‘Dilli Chalo’ march and a public rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1.
On Tuesday, the Delhi Police said that permission granted to the Congress to hold a rally at Ramlila Maidan had not been revoked.
The clarification followed AICC General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal’s remark that the permission for the rally had been denied.
“We announced a public impeachment of Ganesh Kumar of the Congress Party. That was actually planned as a curtain-raiser for the Ramlila Maidan rally and march scheduled for November 1. First of all, we approached Ashoka Hotel and its lawn. Initially, they told us they were okay with giving us the Ashoka Hotel lawn. But then the police came into the picture and denied permission for the lawn,” he said.
He alleged that the intervention was directed by Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Congress had availed permission to use Ramlila Maidan from October 25 to November 3 for its agitation against the CEC after approaching the police with a venue availability certificate from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
