It is often said that when love is built on trust, even fate lends a helping hand. While most people buy insurance for life, cars, or homes, have you ever heard of love insurance? A remarkable story from
China has gone viral, where a couple’s faith in their long-term relationship paid off, quite literally, at the time of their wedding.
The incident is from Xi’an city in China’s Shaanxi province. In 2016, a woman surnamed Wu made an unusual decision to strengthen her bond with her boyfriend, Wang. She purchased a special policy called ‘Love Insurance’ from China Life Property and Casualty Insurance Company.
The policy cost her just 199 yuan (approximately Rs2,500–Rs3,800 at the time). Little did anyone imagine that this modest investment would turn into a substantial wedding reward a decade later.
Wu and Wang first met during secondary school and later studied at the same university. They officially began dating in 2015. What started as a college romance lasted for nearly ten years, and in 2025, the couple finally registered their marriage.
The policy came with an interesting condition: if the couple married at least three years after buying the policy and within the next ten years, they would be eligible for a reward—either 10,000 roses or a 0.5-carat diamond necklace. The policy’s original price was 299 yuan, but Wu had purchased it at a discounted rate.
Interestingly, Wang initially dismissed the policy as a scam and believed his girlfriend had been fooled by an online fraud. Time, however, proved him wrong. After the couple officially registered their marriage in October 2025 and filed a claim, the insurance company honoured the policy. Although such policies are no longer sold, existing customers were still entitled to their benefits.
Instead of choosing 10,000 roses, the couple opted for 10,000 yuan in cash (over Rs1.3 lakh). Wu joked that handling so many roses after marriage would have been impractical, making cash the wiser choice.
The unique love story has gone viral on social media, with users praising the couple’s decade-long commitment and good fortune. Some joked that such policies should exist in India too, while others quipped, “Investing in love is the safest investment, if the person is right.”
