A shocking incident from Mumbai’s Sion Hospital has left many people stunned. A video showed a man calmly standing inside the hospital with a machete still stuck in his head. The injured man was also seen
using his phone while waiting for treatment, something many online users found hard to believe.
The incident involved 27-year-old Rohit Pawar, a resident of Mankhurd, who was attacked late at night during a fight near PMGP Colony, as per Mid-Day. Despite suffering a severe head injury, he reportedly remained conscious and was able to walk on his own when he reached the hospital.
Man Seen Calmly Using Phone
In the video shared online, Rohit can be seen standing quietly inside the hospital premises while the weapon remains lodged in the left side of his skull. People around him appeared shocked, while some were seen recording videos on their phones.
What surprised many viewers most was Rohit’s calm behaviour despite the horrifying injury. He was even seen checking his mobile phone while waiting for medical attention.
The clip quickly sparked strong reactions online. A user wrote, “The Dean of Sai Hospital should pay attention to this and take immediate action against the concerned doctors and staff. If patients are suffering in this manner, then what salary are these employees taking??”
Another person commented, “What is this. He is still standing and operating the phone. Should he be in OT right? Even security is just standing and watching him.”
A comment read, “OMG! What am I seeing? That man casually walked beside him. People are staring at him and making videos. Those security people seem least bothered. Where are the doctors?”
Others pointed out that his ability to walk and use his phone did not mean the injury was not serious. “If he is moving with a phone, that doesn’t mean he is safe or has no worry sign. If care is not taken and standard procedures are not followed, he dies in minutes the moment the machete is taken out of his skull,” a user wrote.
Attack Happened After An Old Dispute
According to police, the attack took place around 10.30 pm near Irfan Chicken Shop in PMGP Colony, as per Mid-Day. Officials said the fight reportedly started because of an earlier argument between Rohit and another local youth named Gautam.
Police said three minors later confronted Rohit. One of them allegedly attacked him with a machete, while the others punched and kicked him.
Rohit’s father, Nagnath Pawar, said the family was preparing to sleep when Rohit left home to meet friends. “Around 10.15 pm, when the family was about to go to bed, Rohit told me he would hang out with his friends for some time,” he told Mid-Day. A few minutes later, the family was informed about the assault. Rohit was first taken to Shatabdi Hospital in Govandi and later shifted to Sion Hospital.

Doctors Explain How He Survived
Doctors at Sion Hospital reportedly said Rohit survived because the weapon entered a part of the brain that did not affect major functions.
Dr Batuk Diyora, professor and HOD, neurosurgery, Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and Sion Hospital, explained that the machete passed through the skin, muscles, skull bone and parts covering the brain, but missed critical brain areas. “As none of his main brain parts was hit, he was conscious. He was talking fine and also had proper motor skills,” the doctor told Mid-Day.
Doctors also explained that scanning and removing the weapon was extremely risky. A CT scan and angiogram reportedly took much longer than usual because of the position of the weapon.
According to doctors, Rohit will reportedly continue to remain under observation because he could later face problems such as seizures, weakness or speech-related issues. Meanwhile, police have detained the three minors involved in the attack and sent them to Dongri Children’s Home. Officials said CCTV footage from the area is also being checked as part of the investigation.
