IMAX Chief Content Officer Jonathan Fischer has showered high praise on Namit Malhotra’s upcoming mythological epic Ramayana, calling it “the most anticipated global film of 2026.” The statement was made
during a recent event highlighting IMAX’s global expansion plans and upcoming cinematic slate, instantly placing the film among the biggest worldwide releases to look forward to.

A Two-Part Epic Backed by Global Powerhouses
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari, who also directed movies like Dangal and chhichore, Ramayana is a two-part adaptation of one of the world’s most enduring epics. The film is produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and co-produced by Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, in collaboration with eight-time Oscar-winning VFX studio DNEG.
The first instalment is slated to hit theatres during Diwali 2026, while Part Two will release in Diwali 2027. Both films are planned for IMAX releases worldwide, promising audiences a visually immersive experience on a massive scale.
Star-Studded Cast Brings the Epic to Life
The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast from across Indian cinema. Ranbir Kapoor will be seen portraying Lord Ram, while Sai Pallavi essays the role of Goddess Sita. Rocking Star Yash takes on the powerful role of Ravana. Veteran actor Sunny Deol will be seen as Lord Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey plays Lakshman.
The supporting cast includes Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodri and Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, along with Arun Govil, Kunal Kapoor, Adinath Kothare, Sheeba Chaddha and Indira Krishnan.
Fans Erupt During Theatrical Promo Screenings
The excitement around Ramayana is already visible among audiences. During recent screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash, a 3D promo of the film played in theatres, triggering loud chants of “Jai Shree Ram” and standing ovations. Several cinema halls reportedly turned into stadium-like spaces.
A reel showcasing these fan reactions has gone viral, crossing 3.6 million views and over 128,000 likes. Producer Namit Malhotra acknowledged the response on social media, calling the energy “electrifying” and deeply motivating for the team.
Massive VFX Phase Underway
According to reports by Pinkvilla, the makers have now entered an intensive 300-day VFX phase. While shooting for Ramayana: Part One was wrapped up in June 2025, director Nitesh Tiwari has locked the final edit and runtime. With music composed by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman, cutting-edge technology, and IMAX-scale visuals, Ramayana is shaping up to be a once-in-a-generation global spectacle set for Diwali 2026.
