Amid the backlash that Janhvi Kapoor’s portrayal has been facing in Peddi, it has now been reported that the Bollywood actress had doubled her fee for the Ram Charan starrer. Reportedly, Janhvi charged
Rs 8 crore for the movie and “was a thorough professional on the sets”.
“This is the biggest pay cheque of her career, and she was a thorough professional on the sets of Peddi. She was paid Rs. 5 crores for Devara, and this is a jump of about 50 per cent from Devara. With back-to-back success in the Telugu film industry with Devara and Peddi, Janhvi is considered to be the woman with a golden leg in the fraternity, commanding a 100 per cent success ratio,” a trade source recently told Bollywood Hungama. However, News18 Showsha cannot vouch for the authenticity of these numbers.
Interestingly, this comes at a time when Janhvi Kapoor’s alleged oversexualisation in Peddi has been facing backlash. The actress’ introduction scene in the film is also being called highly problematic. Ram Charan’s character objectifies her while describing her physical appearance in an extremely derogatory way. In a following scene, when a supporting character asks Charan’s Peddi how he will recognise Janhvi, he says, “Chehra dekh kar nahi, kamariya se phechan lenge (I can recognise her from her waist),” adding, “Uss chikri ka hume sab kuch pata hai bas chehra chod ke (I remember every bit of that lady other than her face).”
It does not end here. Ram Charan’s Peddi then visits Janhvi’s house at night and forcibly kisses her. While Janhvi expresses objection to it repeatedly, Peddi justifies it, saying it was his way of expressing love.
The director of the film, Buchi Babu Sana, also reacted to the backlash and told SCREEN, “I had not anticipated that the scenes would be perceived so negatively by audiences,” and then added, “The idea was to showcase a playful romance story between Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor. However, we’ll be more careful and make better representations.”
Janhvi Kapoor’s oversexualised scenes have now been removed from Peddi.
