People living in parts of Mumbai’s eastern suburbs and Thane city will be facing a 24-hour water cut in the coming week. Why? The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to carry out major repair
and maintenance work on water supply lines. According to the civic body, the water cut will be implemented from 10 AM on Tuesday, January 27, to 10 AM on Wednesday, January 28.
The shutdown will affect parts of S ward (Bhandup) and T ward (Mulund), as well as a small area in Thane. The temporary disruption is necessary to facilitate important infrastructure work on the city’s water supply system.
What Maintenance Work Will Be Done?
The BMC has planned to shift existing water connections to a 2750 mm-diameter Upper Vaitarna main channel near Mulund West, which will begin on January 27. At the same time, the civic body has informed that the authorities will install an iron cap on the 2400 mm-diameter Vaitarna canal in the Khindipada area of Bhandup West.
To allow the repair work to be completed efficiently, the water supply in the above mentioned areas will remain suspended for a full day. Civic authorities have urged residents of S ward and T ward, as well as certain areas of Thane city, to store water in advance and use it judiciously during the shutdown period. The BMC has also advised people to boil drinking water for the next few days after the repair as a precautionary measure.
