After recreating history with Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and Gadar 2, Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel are all set to return with the franchise’s third instalment. The first part was released in 2001 and went on
to become one of the biggest blockbusters of its time, earning a cult following over the years. More than two decades later, Gadar 2 revived the magic of Tara Singh and Sakeena, creating a box-office storm upon its release in 2023. Now, with Gadar 3 officially in the works, excitement among fans is already at an all-time high. Director Anil Sharma has shared an exciting update on the third part.
While speaking to Variety India, Anil Sharma revealed that they are currently working on the script. He also revealed once everything is finalised, the team will start the production by the end of 2026. He said, “As for ‘Gadar 3,’ we are right now working on the script and once we are satisfied and the story is blocked is when we begin production, hopefully by the end of this year.”
Explaining the enduring popularity of the Gadar franchise, Sharma further said that pop culture is shaped by the things people love and connect with. He noted that while generations have changed and audiences have grown older over the years, the emotional core of *Gadar* has remained intact. According to him, the film carved a special place in viewers’ hearts when it was first released and has managed to stay relevant across decades. Sharma added that its timeless appeal is the reason it continues to resonate with audiences and remains a cultural touchstone even today.
He added, “I know what the audience wants because I am a part of the audience. I have always prioritized the audience. I never write my films like a filmmaker. I am a man sitting in a single-screen theatre, not even a multiplex. If the story excites that man sitting in the single screen, that is what makes it into my film. The filmmaker has to be the first audience. You make films for them to come to the cinema halls to watch your work. If you make a film thinking it is for you, why spend crores? Instead, upload it on YouTube and keep watching it.”
Meanwhile, the entire team of Gadar was recently seen celebrating film’s 25 years. Apart from Sunny, Ameesha, and Anil, other celebs from the industry were seen gracing the event.
