Planning to step out for New Year’s Eve in Bengaluru? If your plans include MG Road, Brigade Road or Church Street, you may want to rethink your route. As the city prepares for midnight celebrations, the Bengaluru Police
have announced traffic restrictions across several central areas to manage crowds and ensure public safety. Vehicular movement will be suspended on key roads from 8 pm tonight until 3 am tomorrow, with only police and emergency vehicles permitted. Commuters and revellers alike are being urged to plan ahead, use public transport where possible and follow the alternate routes put in place to avoid last-minute delays.
Bengaluru Roads Closed to Traffic
The following roads and stretches will remain closed during the restriction period:
- MG Road to Mayo Hall Junction
- Brigade Road, from Cauvery Emporium to Opera Junction
- Church Street, from Brigade Road Junction to Museum Road
- Residency Road
- Aashirvadam Junction to Mayo Hall Junction
- Museum Road, Old Madras Bank Road and Rest House Road
Bengaluru Traffic Restriction Timings
Entry for general vehicles will not be permitted between 8 pm and 3 am. Pedestrian movement will be allowed on select stretches, including between MG Road Junction and Opera Junction via Brigade Road, subject to crowd conditions.
Alternate Routes Announced In Bengaluru
To reduce congestion, the Bengaluru Traffic Police have arranged the following diversions:
- Vehicles heading towards Cantonment from Halasur will be diverted via Trinity Circle, Halasuru Road–Dickenson Road and Cubbon Road.
- Traffic from Domlur can proceed via India Garage, ASC Centre and Trinity Circle.
- Vehicles from the HAL side will be allowed to move through ASC Centre and Trinity Circle.
- Parking Facilities for New Year Revellers
- Designated parking spaces have been arranged at:
- Shivajinagar BMTC Bus Stand (first floor)
- UB City, Garuda Mall and Kamaraja Road
- Cubbon Park Metro stations
Cab Pick-up and Drop-off Points in Bengaluru
Cab services will operate only from the following authorised locations:
- Cubbon Road: BRV Junction and Chinnaswamy Stadium Gate 6
- Queen’s Road: CTO Junction
- Raj Bhavan Road: CTO Junction
- Special BMTC Bus Services
- BMTC has arranged late-night bus services to facilitate return travel after celebrations. Buses can be boarded from designated BMTC and TT pick-up points, with routes including:
- Aashirvadam Circle to Bannerghatta
- Anil Kumble Junction to Banashankari
- Anil Kumble Circle to NICE Road Junction and Sunkadakatte via Modi Hospital Road
- Opera Junction to NICE Road Junction
- Hasmot Hospital to Marathahalli
- Mayo Hall to Chikkajala and Madavara
- Trinity Circle to Bagalur and Hoskote
Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with traffic personnel, use public transport where possible, and adhere to on-ground instructions to ensure a safe and orderly New Year’s Eve across the city.
