A small moment on a film set has turned into a big reminder of empathy, thanks to Anupam Kher. The veteran actor is being widely praised after a video from a shoot in Gurugram captured him going out of his
way to make a security guard’s simple wish come true.

The incident took place during a shoot in Sohna, where a security guard approached Kher with a polite request for a selfie. The actor immediately agreed. What followed, however, left him visibly affected. The guard explained that he did not own a touchscreen smartphone and only had a basic keypad phone, making it impossible to take a photo.
The revelation struck a chord with Kher, who later described feeling emotional upon realising the gap in access many still face. Rather than letting the moment pass, he decided to act.
Right there on the set, Anupam Kher arranged for a new smartphone to be purchased and gifted it to the guard. He also made the moment memorable by promising that the very first photo taken on the new phone would be with him. The guard’s reaction — a mix of disbelief, gratitude and joy — quickly became the emotional highlight of the now-viral video.
The clip, shared from the shoot, shows the guard smiling ear to ear as what began as a brief interaction turned into a life-changing gesture.
As the video spread online, social media users flooded the comments section with praise and debate in equal measure. One user wrote, “Hero toh aise bante hai, dil jitt liya sir ne”, applauding the actor’s compassion. Another comment read, “I don’t care whether it was for publicity or not. All I care is he got a brand new phone!”
Not everyone was convinced, though. Some questioned why the moment was shared publicly, with one user commenting, “Why make it a social media event? If it was genuine help, why involve media?”
