As the festival of lights draws closer, Bollywood actress Yami Gautam is gearing up for a truly special Diwali. She will celebrate the festival in Chandigarh, where her roots are. The actress, who has
been winning hearts with her stellar performances on screen, plans to celebrate the festival in the most traditional and heartfelt way possible. For Yami, Diwali isn’t about grand parties or glamorous celebrations, but about the warmth of home, family rituals and enjoyment with her little son, Vedavid.
Growing up in Chandigarh, Yami said the festive season always came with a certain buzz. Talking to Hindustan Times, she shared, “Right from cleaning the house, discarding what you don’t need, getting new home decor, kitchen utilities and buying gifts, the whole vibe is warm and filled with excitement.”
For the actress, this Diwali holds even more meaning as she gets to celebrate it with her husband, filmmaker Aditya Dhar and their son, Vedavid. She hopes her little one grows up embracing the same values and traditions she learned from her parents. The actress recalled, “Family tradition involves lighting diyas on Dhanteras, performing puja on Chhoti Diwali, and making rangoli with soaked rice paste. My mom would draw Ma Lakshmi’s feet with such precision — no stencils, just her hand! We would be so careful not to spoil it while playing around.”
‘Vedavid Is Really Young’: Yami Gautam
As for her son, she added, “Vedavid is really young but loves watching the city adorned with lights, and fireworks in the sky gets him excited. We make ‘mitti ke ghar’ that are placed in the puja room and offer sweets in the mandir. Vedavid is always part of the puja and he tries his best to chip in when we are cleaning the house.”
Yami said that she and Aditya are both deeply rooted in their values and want to continue celebrating Diwali in a way that keeps those traditions alive.
Yami Gautam’s Professional Endeavours
Amid her festive excitement, Yami is also looking ahead to a busy professional year. With five upcoming releases lined up, the actress said she is thrilled and grateful for the love audiences continue to shower upon her.
She is set to collaborate with Emraan Hashmi in Suparn Verma’s upcoming film Haq, a courtroom drama. Inspired by the real-life case of Mohd. Ahmed Khan vs. Shah Bano Begum, the film is set to release on November 7.
