As Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 hit the screens today, superstar Mohanlal surprised fans with a cameo as the character named Mathew. Mohanlal was only on screen for a few minutes, but costume designer Jishad
Shamsudeen revealed that the superstar had a larger role which was trimmed. Jishad expressed his anger and stated that he would never return if there was a Jailer 3.
“To everyone who loves and supports me: With the release of Jailer 2, I want to share an important update!! Based on what was shot, I was completely confident in our work-even when reduced to a 2-second glimpse in the trailer. But with the film’s release, three of Mohanlal Sir’s distinct looks were cut entirely, and even that trailer scene was trimmed out,” Jishad wrote on Instagram.
“From my experience in cinema, trimming scenes involving a superstar like Mohanlal Sir is simply unnecessary. Seeing our superstar reduced like this, if there is a Sequel, I will not be a part of it. I am truly sorry to everyone who trusted me,” he wrote and added, “I don’t stand for favours, profits, crore clubs, or stardom. I stand solely for the fans, lovers of the craft, and Mohanlal Sir. Thank you for always standing by my journey.”
Jishad had also penned a long caption, which he later edited to: “Look 1 specially customised for One and Only @mohanlal #mohanlal #lalettan#jishadshamsudeen #jailer #mathew.” Fans flocked to the comments section to extend their support to Jishad. Many lauded his “powerful statement” and wondered why Mohanlal’s part was trimmed in the film.
Meanwhile, News18 Showsha gave the film 3/5 stars. “Rajinikanth is the film’s anchor, bringing his trademark swagger, measured dialogue delivery and effortless command of the screen to Tiger. The action and elevation sequences work best when Nelson lets the megastar’s natural charisma do the heavy lifting. However, the screenplay doesn’t consistently give him moments that feel as fresh or impactful as those in the first film.
