The dream of seeing Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth together on the big screen again might not be too far away. At the SIIMA Awards in Dubai, Kamal sparked fan frenzy when he opened up about the possibility
of reuniting with Rajinikanth after decades.
What Kamal Haasan Said
Asked if fans could expect a film with Rajinikanth, Kamal said, “We don’t know if it’s a Tharamana Sambavam (wonderful occurrence) but it’s good if the audience likes it. If they’re happy, we’ll like it. Otherwise, we’ll continue trying. This was long coming. We were separate because they gave one biscuit to both of us. But the half biscuit makes us both happy, so we’ll come together.”
No rivalry, only respect
The veteran actor made it clear that there has never been a rivalry between the two. “It is you all who thought/created the competition. We don’t have any competition between us. It’s important that we got the chance to do this. He is like that, so am I. It might be a surprise, business-wise, but we feel at least now it’s happening. We always wanted to produce each other’s films,” he added.
What we know so far
While Kamal stopped short of confirming details, strong buzz suggests the project could be helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The filmmaker recently said he has cameos planned for the LCU and would want to bring Kamal back because he is a fan. Lokesh has earlier directed Kamal in Vikram and Rajinikanth in Coolie.
Fans, meanwhile, are already celebrating online, with many calling it the “ultimate Tamil cinema moment” if the film happens. Kamal Haasan was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life, which opened to mixed reviews at the box office and is now streaming on Netflix, while Rajinikanth’s most recent outing was Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, which released in theatres last month.
