Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned that Tehran will not initiate attacks but will respond forcefully if its infrastructure or economic centres are targeted, as tensions in West Asia continue
to escalate.
In a post on X, Pezeshkian said, “We have said many times that Iran doesn’t carry out preemptive attacks, but we will retaliate strongly if our infrastructure or economic centers are targeted.”

To the countries of the region:
If you want development and security, don’t let our enemies run the war from your lands.— Masoud Pezeshkian (@drpezeshkian) March 28, 2026
The statement comes amid growing fears of a wider regional conflict following sustained strikes involving the United States and Israel. Iranian leaders have repeatedly warned that attacks on critical facilities could trigger broader retaliation across the region, potentially impacting energy and economic infrastructure.
Warning to Regional Countries
Pezeshkian also issued a direct message to neighbouring countries in West Asia, cautioning them against allowing their territory to be used for military operations against Iran.
“If you want development and security, don’t let our enemies run the war from your lands,” he said.
The remarks reflect Iran’s long-standing position that while it seeks stable relations with regional neighbours, it will respond to attacks launched from foreign bases or allied territories.
Escalating Stakes
The warning comes as the conflict enters a more volatile phase, with increasing concerns over attacks on energy infrastructure, shipping routes, and strategic assets in the Gulf.
Pezeshkian has previously cautioned that strikes on such facilities could have “uncontrollable consequences” that may extend beyond the region and impact global stability.
With rhetoric intensifying on all sides, Iran’s latest message signals both restraint and resolve, a willingness to avoid initiating conflict, but a clear readiness to respond decisively if provoked.
