Kolkata, Jul 20 (PTI) Rainfall intensity over the sub-Himalayan districts of West Bengal is likely to ease from Wednesday, while precipitation is expected to increase across the Gangetic plains of the state,
the IMD said.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts, while the remaining districts of north Bengal are expected to receive heavy rain till Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.
The Met department forecast heavy rainfall over North and South 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Bardhaman and Bankura districts in south Bengal from July 22 to 24.
Chepan in Alipurduar district recorded the state’s highest rainfall of 15 cm in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Monday, according to IMD data.
Majherdabri Tea Garden in Alipurduar recorded 10 cm rainfall, followed by Singimari in Cooch Behar (9 cm), Damdim Tea Estate in Jalpaiguri (8 cm) and Lava in Kalimpong (7 cm), it said.
Kolkata received 3 cm rainfall during the same period. The IMD forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by an overcast sky over the city till Tuesday morning. PTI AMR MNB
