India’s very first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is expected to hit the tracks in September 2025, as announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at a recent event in Gujarat.
This sleeper version is designed
to bring the same comfort and speed of the popular semi-high-speed Vande Bharat trains to overnight journeys.
With better facilities and sleek design, it aims to become the go-to option for long-distance travel.
What Makes It So Special?
As per NDTV Auto, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is being developed by BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Limited) using cutting-edge technology from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF). It will feature 16 coaches, including:
- AC First Class
- AC 2-Tier
- AC 3-Tier
With a top speed of 180 km/h, the train is expected to offer faster, smoother, and safer journeys than ever before.

What Will The Sleeper Train Offer?
Here’s what passengers can expect onboard this next-gen train:
- Real-time passenger information screens
- USB charging with reading lamps
- Modular pantry units for fresh meals
- Hot water showers in First AC
- Touch-free bio-vacuum toilets
- Accessible berths and toilets
- Talk-back units for onboard assistance
- CCTV surveillance for safety
- Sensor-based doors between coaches
The train will also feature Kavach, an anti-collision system, emergency braking, and anti-climbing tech to ensure maximum safety.
Where Will It Run?
The exact routes are still under discussion. However, some of the likely options include:
- New Delhi–Mumbai
- New Delhi–Howrah
- New Delhi–Pune
- New Delhi–Secunderabad
These routes are popular air corridors, and the Vande Bharat Sleeper could offer a more affordable and comfortable alternative to flying.
Will It Be Affordable?
The Railway Minister has assured that fares will remain middle-class friendly, just like the current Vande Bharat trains.
