Parle Products on Wednesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he gifted Melody toffees to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during his visit to Rome, calling it a moment that took the popular
Indian candy brand “to the global stage”.
Sharing a message on social media, Parle wrote: “Thank You Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for taking Parle Melody to the global stage.”
In the video, Meloni is heard saying, “Prime Minister Modi brought a very, very good toffee as a gift.” “Melody,” he replies, drawing laughter and quickly reviving the popular “Melodi” meme online.
“A proud moment for all of us at Parle Products to see an Indian favourite being shared across borders,” the company added.
Earlier, Parle Products vice-president and chief marketing officer Mayank Shah said the viral interaction could significantly boost both domestic and overseas demand for the popular toffee. He said the video was an “internet-breaking moment”.

“Expect a lot of traction in domestic & international sales after this internet-breaking moment,” Shah told CNBC-TV18.
“This is a nice way of pushing Indian products and giving a global stage,” he said.
Melody is a chocolate-filled caramel toffee made by Parle Products, one of India’s largest confectionery and biscuit companies.
It is one of Parle’s most recognisable candies and has been popular in India for decades, especially among millennials and schoolchildren. The toffee has a chewy caramel outer layer with a chocolate filling inside, and is known for its long-running advertising line: “Melody itni chocolaty kyun hai?” (Why is Melody so chocolaty?)
The Parle Products VP also thanked the Prime Minister for what he described as unprecedented visibility for the brand while pointing out that Melody is already exported to over 100 countries and the viral moment could further strengthen its global recall.
