An elderly woman was killed and her daughter was seriously injured after being run over by a speeding container truck while crossing the Jaipur-Delhi National Highway in Kotputli-Behror district on Friday,
police said.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Urmila Devi (62), a resident of Paota.
Her daughter, Seema (27), suffered critical injuries and is undergoing treatment, PTI quoted Pragpura police station in-charge Kiran Singh Yadav as saying.
The police stated that the accident took place near Paota bus stand when the victims were returning home after attending a religious event.
Yadav said they were crossing the road to reach their home located nearby when the container hit them.
After the accident, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
A case has been registered, and strict action will be taken against the driver, Yadav said.
The CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, she added.
Earlier, a married couple and their relative were killed in a road accident in Jaisalmer on Thursday, police said.
The incident took place in the Bhaniyana police station limits when a jeep collided with the motorcycle carrying the three individuals.
The victims, identified as Bhavnath (35), his wife Bhawari Devi (35), and her niece, Pinky (12), who were on the motorcycle, died on the spot due to the impact of the crash, police stated.
