Chia seeds have gained in popularity over the years because they provide numerous nutritional benefits. While they are widely regarded as providing numerous health benefits, a doctor compared the nutritional content
of the popular superfood to isabgol, also known as psyllium husk, and shared his views on its nutritional values.
In his Instagram video, the doctor said, “In a world obsessed with imported superfoods, we often overlook what actually works. If isabgol gets as good marketing as chia seeds in India, then people won’t suffer from bloating and other gut problems.”

Why is Isabgol a better choice?
The doctor added, “Isabgol is one of the most effective natural sources of soluble fibre. While chia seeds contain only 10% soluble fibre, isabgol has 70–80% pure soluble fibre.” He mentioned that Isabgol, like chia seeds, produces a fibrous gel inside the gut that controls digestion, stimulates bowel movement, and naturally soothes the gut lining.
Psyllium is a potent prebiotic that boosts bifidobacteria in your stomach. Moreover, he added, “Studies show that psyllium husk keeps you full for longer, supports digestion, reduces cholesterol, and improves blood sugar by slowing down glucose absorption.” The doctor recommended 1-2 tablespoons in water or yoghurt and assured you that it will properly meet your hydration needs.
What is the online community saying?
Online users had varied reactions to the information. One person said, “Finally someone is talking about this.” But there were others who noted certain problems with Isabgul. A user wrote, “I agree with the point you mentioned, but taking isabgol every day is not ideal. If someone has loose stools or bloating, it can actually cause problems. It’s better to consume it once a week or once every 10 days, not daily.
Chia seeds, on the other hand, can be consumed every day as they are rich in fiber, omega-3, protein, calcium, and antioxidants.” Some where still confused between Chia Seeds and Isabgul asked, “So which is better.” a persona also stated, “Please focus on your diet and lifestyle more and go to a proper dietitian with a valid degree instead of listening to such half knowledge.”
