A$AP Rocky recently opened up about how his mother encouraged him to date Rihanna, saying she had an instinct about their compatibility. In an interview with the New York Times Popcast on January 15, the rapper
and actor explained that his mom always thought Rihanna was the right person for him.
“Mothers know best,” Rocky said. “I’m thankful that [Rihanna] was put in my life at that time because any time prior to that I don’t think I was ready for something like that. I don’t think she was either.”

Before having children, Rocky said being with a partner felt like removing a blindfold. “A woman will change your whole life, especially if it’s a companion,” he said. He explained that the right partner helps you see things clearly and figure out friends or situations you might overlook.
Rocky noted many similarities between him and Rihanna. Both were born in the same year, and his father comes from the same country as the Umbrella hitmaker’s family. “When I go back, I get to see both sides of my family. It’s so many similarities, it’s just funny. We laugh about it a lot,” he said.
From Friends To Life Partners
The rapper revealed that he and Rihanna were close friends for nearly a decade before they became a couple. “Rihanna was always my boo. I always f—ed with her,” he said. Rocky also remembered how his mother repeatedly hinted that he should be with Rihanna. “My mother used to say s— like, ‘I know you like this girl that you [are] with right now’ — I ain’t gon’ say no names — ‘but I want you with RiRi.’ It’s like, ‘Ma, why you keep saying that? That girl don’t even want me like that,'” he added.

A$AP Rocky and Rihanna confirmed their relationship in November 2020, People reported. The couple now has three children: sons RZA Athelston, 5, and Riot Rose, 2, and daughter Rocki Irish, who is four months old.
