Shimla, Jun 4 (PTI) A severe thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, hail and heavy showers lashed the state capital and surrounding areas on Thursday afternoon, disrupting normal life.
The storm kept people
indoors and caused traffic jams as vehicles moved at snail’s pace.
Shimla received 32.8 mm rains within an hour, according to the weather office.
In the 24 hours since Wednesday evening, light to moderate rain was witnessed in isolated areas in the state. Bijahi received 25 mm of rain, followed by Sundernagar (19.6 mm), Kufri (13 mm), Khadrala (7 mm), Solan (6 mm), Jot (5 mm), Manali (4 mm), Kotkhai (3.3 mm), Bhabhanagar (1.6 mm) and Shilaroo (1.2 mm).
The local meteorological station issued an orange warning for hail, thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph at isolated places in four districts of Kullu, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur for Friday.
It also issued a yellow warning for lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph at isolated places in Chamba, Kangra and Solan districts for Friday.
The MeT station predicted wet spell in the state till June 10.
There was no significant change in minimum temperatures. Kukumseri was the coldest in the state with a low of 5.6 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperatures fluctuated marginally, and Neri was the hottest in the state with a high of 38.6 degrees Celsius. PTI BPL PRK
