Alia Bhatt has expressed concerns for the ongoing flood situation in Assam. On Tuesday night, the Bollywood actress took to the stories section of her Instagram handle and appealed for ‘immediate relief’.
She also urged her fans to come forward and support the needy during this difficult time.
“Right now, floods are affecting so many parts of our country with Assam being among the hardest hit, facing an incredibly challenging time. More than 60 lives have been lost. Lakhs of people have been displaced. Entire families have lost their homes, their land, their livestock, and for some, even the people they love,” Alia wrote.
“It happens every year and it still catches us off guard. Assam needs immediate relief right now, and it’ll need support for the long road to recovery. If you’ve been wondering how you can help. I’ll be sharing a few ways we can support relief efforts over the next few days, through organisations working on the ground,” the actress added.
Alia Bhatt is not the first Bollywood celebrity who has come forward to help Assam. Recently, Salman Khan also teamed up with one of his fans club in Assam to start relief campaign.
For the unversed, Assam is once again grappling with the devastating impact of floods during the monsoon season. The state’s extensive river network, particularly the Brahmaputra and its tributaries, makes it highly vulnerable to recurring floods and riverbank erosion. Recent flooding has damaged homes, roads, agricultural land and other infrastructure, with several districts reporting significant losses. The situation has also prompted government agencies to assess damage and coordinate relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Recently, PM Modi assured the MPs of the Centre’s full support in tackling the crisis and appreciated the efforts of the Assam government in managing the flood situation. While a central team is already in Assam assessing the damage, the prime minister also indicated that a senior Union minister would be deputed to the state to further strengthen coordination and relief efforts.
