India is all set to redefine how stations cater to travellers and residents and the Ghaziabad–Meerut corridor is leading the way. At the centre of this development is the Ghaziabad Regional Rapid Transit
System (RRTS) station. Beyond being a fast and efficient transport point, this station will host India’s first-ever rooftop restaurant in a transit hub along with cafés, shopping outlets, wellness centres and banquet halls. Passengers will no longer see stations as merely places to board a train, they will become destinations in themselves.
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is aiming to make travel smoother and more enjoyable while also encouraging commercial activity within station areas. The Ghaziabad Namo Bharat Station is a key part of this vision, which will bring together transit, dining, shopping, healthcare, and entertainment facilities under one roof.
What’s Special About The Rooftop Restaurant?
One of the most exciting features of this initiative is that Ghaziabad station will have India’s first rooftop restaurant in a transit hub. This will be a total game-changer, as passengers will be able to enjoy their food while immersing themselves in the panoramic views of the city, while the hustle and bustle continue on lower floors.
Alongside the rooftop restaurant, the station will include cafes, casual dining options, food courts, fine-dining restaurants and banquet halls for events and gatherings.
This ensures that commuters can take a break or even hold meetings without leaving the station premises.
How Will Commercial Spaces Be Developed?
NCRTC has invited bids for the commercial development of the station’s Property Development (PD) areas. Around 18,578 square metres of space will be made available on a licence basis for a fixed rent that will allow shops, cafés, restaurants, wellness centres, pharmacies and other services to operate.
The commercial spaces are spread across multiple levels:
Ground floor: 4,229 square metres
Upper levels 1 and 2: 11,914 square metres
Core-A floors: 2,435 square metres
Who Can Apply And What Are The Licence Details?
The commercial spaces are available through a tender process which invites local vendors, retailers and service providers. The licence period for these commercial areas has been fixed at 25 years.
Interested parties can apply through an e-tendering process with the last date for submission being February 4. Details on eligibility criteria, timelines and scope is available on the NCRTC website (ncrtc.in).
How Will This Boost Local Commerce And Employment?
This commercial development initiative is also aimed at strengthening local commerce while also generating employment opportunities. Vendors can use the space for shops, kiosks, food outlets, restaurants, wellness and medical facilities, hotels, showrooms or event spaces. With so much activities, the station is expected to create numerous employment opportunities.
Why Was Ghaziabad RRTS Station Chosen For This Project?
The Ghaziabad station is located in a densely populated urban area near major residential neighbourhoods like Patel Nagar, Raj Nagar, Arya Nagar and Kavi Nagar. It is also close to the city’s main bus terminal. So, basically, it will guarantee high daily footfall.
The station connects with the Delhi Metro and other modes of transport along the 82-kilometre Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor.
With its location, footfall and connectivity, the Ghaziabad station is expected to become a significant centre for commercial and lifestyle activity.
