The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) today received a hoax e-mail about a possible bomb being placed in its new BEL road facility in Bengaluru, sources told CNN-News18. The premises was evacuated
following the threat.
Police sources have said that the e-mail appears to be a part of a hoax campaign. Such e-mails were also sent to Karnataka High Court and several schools in Bengaluru lately.
The entire facility is being searched following the evacuation keeping in mind the seriousness of the threat. Bomb squads have been deployed at the premises.
Nothing serious has been found so far, police sources said. They also informed that a search operation is underway.
On Thursday, Delhi Police apprehended a man from Ghaziabad for sending hoax bomb threats to different establishments over several days, according to media reports. The man has been identified as Nishant Tyagi.
He has, apparently, been undergoing treatment for mental illnesses from different institutions over the years. The police were informed about his mental health issues by his family.
The police are now trying to determine what could be his motive behind the act. So far, in their investigation, they did not find any explosives or materials which could be used to make a bomb.
Last month, a bomb threat was sent to the Gurugram Municipal Corporation and the Mayor’s office in Sector 34 of the city. The message had threatened that bomb blasts would take place at the premises of the municipal corporation alongside several Hindu temples.
However, nothing of the sort happened. Offices of Deputy Commissioner and sub-divisional magistrate were also threatened.
The sender of that mail had posed as pro-Khalistan group. The message had said, “Haryana will become Khalisatan”. They even gave the time of the blast in the message, 1:11 PM and 3:11 PM.
The sender had also threatened that bomb attacks would take place on railway tracks between Chandigarh, Ambala, and Delhi. The message also asked travellers to be cautioned and told to “protect their children”.
