Iran’s army chief Amir Hatami has instructed military commanders to be fully prepared to counter any form of attack, according to state media reports, as tensions with the United States continue to escalate.
Hatami told operational units to closely monitor enemy movements with “utmost pessimism and accuracy” and remain ready for all scenarios, Reuters reported.
This came after fresh warnings from US President Donald Trump, who has signalled intensified military action against Iran in the coming weeks.
Hatami said that the country’s operational headquarters must monitor “enemy movements with utmost pessimism and accuracy” and be ready to counter any method of attack, a report by Reuters said.
The development comes after Trump said that the Iran conflict is “nearing completion” and could end within weeks. “No enemy troops should survive if adversaries attempt a ground operation,” state media quoted Hatami as saying.
Footage shared by state media showed soundless footage showing Hatami in a room with three other army commanders and on a video call with about a dozen others.
Donald Trump’s Address To Nation Sends Mixed Signals
Addressing the nation on Thursday, Trump said US was planning to intensify military action against Iran in the coming weeks, saying Washington is prepared to “hit them extremely hard”.
Signalling an involvement of merely “two to three weeks”, Trump said the Iran war is “nearing completion”. “Tonight, I’m pleased to say that these core strategic objectives are nearing completion. We are going to finish the job. We are getting very close,” he said. The US President added: “We’ve done all of it. Their Navy is gone. Their Air Force is gone. Their missiles are just about used up or beaten. Taken together, these actions will cripple Iran’s military, crush their ability to support terrorist proxies and deny them the ability to build a nuclear bomb. Our armed forces have been extraordinary.”
