For many, travel is more than just moving from one place to another. It’s an experience that encourages personal growth, cultural immersion, and a deeper understanding of the world. It allows us to step
outside our comfort zones, embrace new perspectives, and create lasting memories, both good and bad, depending on the circumstances.
However, one of the biggest challenges travellers may encounter is racism. Before choosing a destination, it’s important to consider whether you’d feel safe and comfortable in a place where discrimination or harassment could occur. Recently, an Indian-origin travel vlogger, who has visited 120 countries, shared that his worst travel experience was in what he described as the “most racist country” he has visited — Georgia.
Indian Traveller’s Visit To The Most “Racist Country” Georgia
In a video shared on Instagram, the content creator said that he had a terrible time at Georgia’s airport, when he was strip-searched, and even the locals were also unwelcoming and racist. He recounted his experience, claiming that despite visiting the nation with his passport full of stamps and visas, he was met with suspicion and disrespect at the immigration counter.
Furthermore, he alleged that a woman at the immigration desk inquired about his purpose of visit to the country, citing that Indians couldn’t be tourists.
However, after making him wait for more than 2 hours, the immigration department handed over the passport to the traveller and allowed him to enter the country.
Sharing the clip, he wrote in the caption, “I had everything for my first trip to Georgia in 2019, including a visa, a booking, and a forwarded flight, but they had me wait for 4 hours at the border with no explanation. When I flew to Paris, they couldn’t believe I could fly there, so they stripped me down and checked everything.”
But seems like nothing changed there even after 6 years. He added, “Coming back after 6 years with three passports full of stamps and visas, I expected them to treat me differently, but instead they see the black face and proceed with the same judgment.”
“It’s not just Immigration, even Locals are racist. 120 countries and only a few countries that upset me, and this is one of them,” the post concluded.
How Did Social Media React?
In no time, the comments section was flooded with reactions, with many sharing their own travelling experiences. An Instagram user wrote, “We met the sweeeetest people in Georgia. Travel experiences are so subjective, my god! So sorry to hear this.”
Another one shared, “Felt the same way in Georgia. Beautiful country with terrible locals.” A person shared, “Idk why and how you had to face this, but we never experienced any such thing. The people were too sweet, and the country is gorgeous.”
A comment reads, “I had a similar experience. 100 per cent accurate information.”
Another one shared, “Went to Georgia a few months ago and I absolutely loved it. Love the people, they were really, really friendly and helpful.”
