India and the West Indies are set to clash in a virtual quarterfinal of the 2026 T20 World Cup at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Sunday. West Indies, like India, have lost just one match in the tournament
so far — to South Africa — and have shown few chinks to make any opposition confident about easily beating them.
The Windies have good memories of the iconic ground. Ten years ago, they beat England in the 2016 T20 World Cup final here to secure their most impressive ICC title.
However, India lean ahead of West Indies in terms of head-to-head records.
India’s exceptional record against West Indies at Eden Gardens
The two sides have faced off across all three formats, with results heavily favouring the hosts in limited-overs, and just about balanced in red-ball cricket.
In Tests, West Indies enjoyed dominant innings victories here in 1958, 1966 and 1983, while India secured major wins in 1974, 2011 and 2013. Four Tests ended in draws — in 1948, 1978, 1987 and 2002.
In ODIs, India have had clear supremacy. West Indies have not registered a win at the venue, suffering defeats in 1988, 1993 and 1994, while a 2014 fixture was cancelled with no result.
In T20Is, India have maintained complete control. All four matches played — one in 2018 and three on a trot in 2022 — ended in Indian victories.
