West Bengal Elections 2026: Actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty arrived at the Subhokhon Community Hall in Belgachia to cast his vote in the ongoing West Bengal assembly elections. In a video that
surfaced on social media, the 75-year-old actor was seen standing in a queue with other voters, waiting for his turn.
Later, Mithun also spoke to the media and revealed that he wanted to vote like any other citizen and had also refused any special treatment. “Just like any regular citizen, I haven’t requested any special treatment whatsoever. I’m confident the voting process will be carried out smoothly, and I appreciate the Election Commission for ensuring everything is in place. I firmly believe the election will proceed successfully,” the actor said, as quoted by ANI.

Other Actors Also Step Out To Cast Votes
The West Bengal Assembly elections are currently underway, with polling taking place in phases across the state. On polling day in Kolkata, several actors from the Bengali film industry stepped out early to cast their votes. Many Tollywood celebrities were seen at polling booths across the city, joining citizens in participating in the democratic process. Several of them also took to social media to share pictures after voting, posting inked-finger selfies and urging people to step out and vote. Among those who stepped out to vote were Prosenjit Chatterjee, Jeet, Sourav Ganguly and Abir Chatterjee, among others.
Mithun Chakraborty’s Political Career
Mithun Chakraborty initially entered politics in 2014 when he joined the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and was nominated to the Rajya Sabha. However, he resigned in 2016, citing health issues and gradually distanced himself from active politics.
After a period of political inactivity, Mithun made a comeback in 2021 by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections. Despite not contesting elections himself, Mithun Chakraborty remains a prominent political figure, leveraging his popularity to influence public opinion.
