The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shared a fascinating video of the dressing room behind the scenes during the final moments of India’s nail-biting win over England at the Oval.
It shows
three phases, titled Belief, Anticipation, and Jubilation. The first is when England needed 17 runs to win with two wickets in hand. The coaching staff were all up on their feet, pacing around the dressing room, and as soon as Prasidh Krishna got Josh Tongue out, their emotions overflowed into loud shouts and applause.
The anticipation phase was when Gus Atkinson had easily taken a single off the last ball in the 85th over to retain strike against Mohammed Siraj. Here, the coaches were seen pacing again while Gambhir went out in the balcony to suggest field placements to Shubman Gill, quite frantically.
Then jubilation. As soon as Siraj got Atkinson clean-bowled with that 143 kph yorker, the dressing room simply went wild with lots of hugging and charged-up emotions, led by the head coach, who was jumping in delight. When he hugged bowling coach Morne Morkel, he was lifted up. Gambhir initially smiled but then let his emotions take over, saying something very loudly in Morkel’s ears.
