After the massive success of Prabhas starrer Kalki 2898 AD, the makers are now moving ahead with the next chapter of Nag Ashwin’s ambitious sci-fi universe. The sequel, currently being developed on a grand
scale, is reportedly progressing steadily and is being planned for a theatrical release in December 2027.
According to Pinkvilla, the film will continue the story from where the first instalment ended, expanding the futuristic world and mythological conflict that formed the core of Kalki 2898 AD.
Kalki 2 Shoot And Post-Production Plans
As per sources, major portions of Kalki 2 are expected to be completed by April next year. Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Sai Pallavi are reportedly set to wrap their respective schedules by then.
A source told the portal, “Makers of Kalki 2 are planning an extensive post-production process, given the heavy visual effects and world-building required for the futuristic spectacle.”
Given the scale of the franchise, the sequel is expected to involve a long post-production timeline, especially due to its visual effects, large-scale action and elaborate world-building.
Prabhas To Lead Bigger Action Sequences
While the plot is being kept tightly under wraps, the sequel is expected to dive deeper into the mythology and emotional conflicts introduced in the first film. The battle against Supreme Yaskin is likely to take centre stage, with new twists and characters entering the story.
The source further shared, “Kalki 2 team is planning large-scale action sequences with Prabhas, and the groundwork for the same has already begun. The sequel is a lot bigger than the first part, as the real battle in the world of Kalki begins here.”
Kamal Haasan As Supreme Yaskin
One of the biggest highlights of the franchise remains Kamal Haasan’s presence as Supreme Yaskin, the menacing antagonist whose role is expected to become even more crucial in the sequel.
Kalki 2 also brings Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan together again, making the film even more special for cinema lovers. The two legends were last seen together in the 1985 cult action drama Geraftaar, which also featured Rajinikanth. Their face-off in the Kalki universe is expected to be one of the major cinematic moments of the sequel.
