A man was arrested after several people were sprayed with what police described as a “form of pepper spray” in a multi-storey car parking at Terminal 3 of Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom, on Sunday
morning.
Police and emergency crews rushed to the scene at 08.11 am (local time) following reports of an altercation involving a group of men. According to the Metropolitan Police, the arrested man remains in custody while officers continue to search for additional individuals involved. Those injured were taken to hospital, though their conditions are not considered life-threatening, news outlet BBC reported.
Authorities stressed that the event appears isolated and is not linked to terrorism or protest activity. Travel around the airport has been affected, with Heathrow urging travellers to “allow extra time when travelling to the airport”.
Met Commander Peter Stevens said, “At this stage, we believe the incident involved a group of people known to each other, with an argument escalating and resulting in a number of people being injured.”
He noted that officers “responded quickly” and that passengers can expect “an increased police presence at Heathrow Airport throughout the morning.”
Footage shared online showed a significant armed police deployment, fire crews, and an officer searching a detained individual. Both the Heathrow Express and sections of the Elizabeth Line were suspended earlier but have since restarted with delays, National Rail reported.
Heathrow continues to encourage passengers to plan for extra time and to check with their airlines if they have concerns. The London Fire Brigade, called at 8.14 am (local time), said its crews were still supporting emergency services at the scene.
