New Delhi, Oct 13 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will hold a mass protest here on October 15 against alleged “vote theft” and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar,
its Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj said on Tuesday.
Bharadwaj said AAP MLAs, councillors and office-bearers from the state, district, assembly and ward levels would participate in the protest. The announcement came after a meeting of party leaders to discuss the future course of the movement.
“Our primary demand is Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. Our protest will continue until he resigns,” Bharadwaj said, adding that the party would continue its agitation through peaceful means despite police action.
He also criticised the government’s decision to de-notify Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site, saying AAP is ready to hold a peaceful demonstration at Ramlila Maidan if permission is not granted at Jantar Mantar.
Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai alleged that the government is using police force and restrictions on public transport and internet services to suppress the movement.
He said the AAP convened a meeting of MLAs, councillors and office-bearers to plan the next course of the agitation.
Rai said the party demands Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, cancellation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and steps to ensure free and fair elections.
Describing the agitation as a movement to save the country, Rai said it would continue until the party’s demands are met. He also warned that the movement, currently centred in Delhi, could spread across the country if the government continued the alleged repression. PTI SHB ARB
