Over 70 children fell ill after consuming a mid-day meal at a government school in Bihar’s Madhepura district, officials reported on Monday. The incident occurred at the Upgraded Middle School in Karu
Tola within the Madhepura Sadar block on Saturday. Shortly after eating the meal, the children began experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, stomach pain, and dizziness.
Authorities have stated that all the affected children are now safe. An investigation into the incident has been launched, with District Education Officer (DEO) Sanjay Kumar confirming that strict action will be taken against those responsible. Kumar added that the NGO responsible for providing the meals will also face consequences.
Local residents alleged that a lizard had fallen into the food, causing the contamination. The children were promptly taken to Madhepura Sadar Hospital, where doctors confirmed that all the students are in stable condition. A girl, who was initially in critical condition, has since been discharged.
