West Bengal CM Oath Ceremony LIVE: BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is set to take oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal at 11 am today. The high-profile ceremony will take place at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade
Ground. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and several senior leaders of the NDA are expected to attend the event.
The oath-taking ceremony coincides with the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday announced Adhikari’s name before party workers and legislators, stating that the BJP legislature party had unanimously chosen him to lead the new government in Bengal. The decision came after a closed-door meeting of newly elected BJP MLAs and senior party leaders.
Soon after being elected leader of the legislature party, Adhikari met Governor R N Ravi at Lok Bhavan and formally staked claim to form the government. Several senior BJP leaders, including Dilip Ghosh, Locket Chatterjee, and Tapas Roy, accompanied him during the meeting with the Governor.
Party leaders described the occasion as a “historic mandate” and said the new government would focus on governance, industrial growth, and improving law and order in the state.
Speaking after his election, Adhikari thanked the BJP’s central leadership, including party national president Nitin Nabin and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, for placing their trust in him. He also expressed gratitude to party workers and voters across the state.
In the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the BJP secured 207 seats, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) won 80 seats, bringing an end to the party’s 15-year rule in the state.
