A day after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation was formally accepted, Karnataka is set to witness a leadership transition with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar likely to be sworn in as the state’s
next chief minister on June 3.
The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) is scheduled to meet on Saturday to formally elect its new leader, paving the way for Shivakumar’s elevation to the top post.
On Thursday, Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation to the Governor’s office, stating that he was acting in accordance with the party leadership’s decision. His resignation was later accepted, bringing an end to months of speculation over a possible change in Karnataka’s leadership.
Shivakumar, who has played a key role in strengthening the Congress in Karnataka and is widely regarded as one of the party’s most influential leaders in the state, is expected to be unanimously chosen as the CLP leader.
